Changes

Even before 2012 began, I knew it was going to be a year of many changes for my family.

The biggest change is due to occur at the end of May, with the arrival of our second child. We had an ultrasound two weeks ago, where we found out that it’s a BOY, and we are all super excited about that! What made this ultrasound even more special than that of my first pregnancy was having our five-year-old son with us for the experience. He absolutely loved watching the fetus as it moved this way and that way (little show-off!). By far, his favorite part was seeing his little brother’s heart beating. And when the nurse pointed to the “outdoor plumbing” and I said, “You’re going to have a little brother!” his face just lit up with joy and excitement. I felt my own heart grow with the love of both of my boys. We are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of this baby boy and all of the changes that will come along with him.

Another big change this year will be when our son starts Kindergarten in August! While I am very excited for this change, it is still so hard to believe that he is about to begin his academic career. My husband and I are doing our best to prepare him for this transition, which is a topic I will talk about in more depth during some future posts.

With these new changes swiftly approaching, my husband and I have decided that some changes to our family lifestyle and habits are necessary as well. And it was in that realization that I discovered a great blog topic (and a reason to finally utilize my English degree!). As a family, we spend a lot of our time going from one place to another, especially on the weekends: visiting extended family and friends, birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, etc. When you come from a large, close-knit family, it seems like there are always arising obligations that we want to uphold. Add to this the fact that my husband and I both work full-time, Monday through Friday, means that we are all away from each other the majority of the day during the week as well. This leaves us but a few, precious hours each day to spend together. I am sure that this is also the case for many families. However, we have realized that our limited time at home can be spent better, and that’s what this blog is all about! It is about bringing our family closer as a unit, and making us stronger as individuals, with the end result of having a happier, healthier life together.

Family is there for you no matter what. When everything else goes wrong, it can feel like that’s all you have. So why not spend our time together wisely and efficiently, so that we can bring each other joy, day in and day out, ’till death do us part! I┬áhope you will follow us on our journey through these changing times, to see where it leads us, and hopefully get inspired to bring your own family just a little closer together as well.
